Rekeying
Keep your locks, change the key. Every old copy stops working. The right move after buying a house, losing a key, or a tenant or roommate moving out.
RekeyingDeadbolts & lock installation
A solid deadbolt on every exterior door does more for your security than any expensive knob. New locks fitted, bored and aligned properly, on wood, metal or fiberglass doors.
Lock repair
Sticking, stiff, spinning, or the key only works if you jiggle it. Most of those are repairs, not replacements — and a repair costs less. I'll tell you which yours is.
Lock replacement
When the hardware is worn out, damaged, or you want to move up a security grade. Knobs, levers, deadbolts, handlesets, patio and sliding door locks.
Smart locks & keypads
Keypad deadbolts, smart locks, fingerprint and fob locks — supplied, installed and set up. I'll also tell you honestly when a smart lock is a bad fit for a particular door.
Keys & broken key extraction
Spare keys cut properly, keys made for locks with no key at all, and broken halves extracted from the cylinder without wrecking it.

Repair, rekey or replace?
The honest answer depends on the lock
Most people call assuming they need new locks. Most of the time they don't.
- Repair — when the hardware is sound and it's just sticking, misaligned or worn inside. Cheapest fix.
- Rekey — when the lock is fine but you don't trust who has a key. Keeps the hardware, changes the key.
- Replace — when the lock is damaged, worn out, a bad grade for an exterior door, or you want something better.
I'll look at it, tell you which one it is, and quote for that. If rekeying will do the job, I'm not going to sell you new locks.

What to have ready
- Which doors — front, back, garage entry, side gate. How many locks in total.
- What's on them now — a photo by text is perfect. Brand names on the face of the lock help.
- What you want — one key for everything, a separate key for a tenant, a keypad on the back door. Or just "make it so the old keys don't work."
- Proof it's your address — ID, a lease, a utility bill. Landlords: something showing you own or manage the property.

What people ask
Should I rekey or replace my locks?
If the hardware is sound, rekey. If the lock is worn, damaged, or you want to move up a security grade, replace. I'll tell you which one you actually need — if rekeying will do the job, I'm not going to sell you new locks.
Can all my doors use the same key?
Usually, yes — provided the locks share a compatible keyway. Where they don't, I can either rekey the compatible ones and replace the odd one out, or set up a small master key system so one key opens everything while each door keeps its own key too.
What grade of lock should I put on my front door?
Locks are graded 1 to 3, with Grade 1 the strongest. For a family home I'd put a solid deadbolt on every exterior door as the baseline — that does more for your security than an expensive knob ever will. I'll walk you through the options for your doors.
Do you install smart locks and keypads?
Yes — keypad locks, smart deadbolts, fob and fingerprint locks. I'll also tell you honestly where a smart lock is a bad fit: a door that doesn't close square, a spot with no Wi-Fi, a lock that needs a battery change every month.
I rent. Can I get the locks rekeyed?
With your landlord's permission, yes — most leases require it, and most landlords say yes when a key has been lost. I'll need something showing you live there, and it helps if the landlord can confirm by phone or text.
